HANALEI (AP) — Officials on Kauai have closed Hanelei Bay to swimming after a shark sighting.

A release from the county says lifeguards reported a 6-foot gray shark was spotted near a surfing spot known as “Grandpa’s.”

Officials are urging people to stay out of the water until further notice, and signs have been posted.

The beach will be closed until at least Wednesday morning, and lifeguards on personal watercraft will monitor the area.
